St Pauls Afrikan Caribbean Carnival aims and objectives are:

To promote and advance the education appreciation and practice of Afrikan and Caribbean arts, culture and history through delivery of an annual carnival:

  1. Deliver a sustainable, safe annual free carnival celebration now and in the future
  2. Encourage participation in carnival arts
  3. Promote inclusion across the diverse population
  4. Educate the local and wider community on the history and issues affecting Black Afrikan and Caribbean people embedding artistic innovation through all activities.
  5. To optimise the organisation performance and ensure compliance with legal requirements – promoting ethical governance

St Pauls Carnival adopts the following values throughout its work:

St Pauls Afrikan Caribbean Carnival is a company limited by guarantee, a registered charity and a membership-based organisation. If you support the aims and objectives you can become a member of the organisation for the forthcoming year.

Membership, which is renewable on an annual basis, entitles you to vote at the Carnivals Annual General Meeting (AGM) and also any Extraordinary General Meetings (EGM’s), which should they occur, we are required to give you a minimum of one months notice of any such meeting. The Carnivals next AGM is scheduled to happen in July, after the 2011 Carnival.

Membership normally runs for one year. Members undertake to pay £1 towards the debts of the company in the event that it ceases to trade.

In order to become a member of St Pauls Afrikan Caribbean Carnival Ltd, please fill out, sign and return the form HERE entitled “Individual Membership and Guarantee” and send it to the Carnival office Ujima House, 97-107 Wilder Street, St Pauls, bristol, BS2 8QU.  The form can only be posted as a signature is required, e-mailed copies will not be accepted. 

FORMS OF INVOLVEMENT

We always encourage involvement from the Community, from local residents as artists to volunteers or in any capacity that can support the planning and presentation of Carnival each year we would be grateful to hear from you. Please complete and submit the appropriate forms, indicating how you want to be involved. If you are returning the forms by post please clearly mark the envelope with the area of involvement you are interested in e.g. Mas Camps and Volunteer.

PROCESSION APPLICATION FORM - Now Closed

If you would like to take part in this years exiciting Procession, in full costume, then we would love to hear from you please download a PROCESSION APPLICATION form.

All  groups wisihing to take part in the Procession are required to fill in and sign the form and return to it to the SPC office. Fillling in this form does not guarantee you a place. Unfortunately we are not able to place everyone who applies into the procession.   If you have not heard from us by 31st May 2011 your application has been unsuccessful.  

ARTISTS & PERFORMERS - FOR THE MAIN STAGE - NOW CLOSED

With over 100 applications submitted to take part at this year's carnival; our short listing process will take place in the coming weeks. Sadly if you have not heard back from us by 31 May your application has been unsuccessful, but Thank you for applying.

The vast range of artists and performers has pleasantly surprised us and equally that they have come from all around the world; as far as Australia, Portugal, the Gambia to New York! St Pauls Carnival celebrates it's 44th year, and always we appreciate everyone who makes the effort to apply, so check back here at the end of May for the 44th main stage line up, which will be full of surprises!

SPC is now a Registered Charity, due to the amount of applications we receive each year there will be a restriction on artists who have performed on the main stage at the 2009-2010 Carnivals. Sadly if you have not heard from us by early May your application has been unsuccessful.

STALLS APPLICATION FORMS - NOW CLOSED

If you applied to have a Food, Merchandise or Information stall at Carnival, and you have submitted a completed form. We have started our short listing process; with over 80 applications to go through we ask that you be patient with us. It stated in the form that we will be getting back to you on Monday 2 May, as this is Bank holiday, we will be making contact instead in that same week.  Thank you

MAS CAMPS & WORKSHOPS OPPORTUNITIES

 - Mas Camps (masquerade camps) and workshops are a great way to get involved in Carnival. If you want to learn costume making skills or want help making something for the procession, then this is for you.

Mas Camps - Ashley Hse OPENING SOON!

We are excited to announce we have secured the use of Ashley hse for Mas Camp, based on St Nicholas Rd (opposite the learning centre). We would like to invite you to join us for Mas Camps informal meeting on Friday the 20th May 2011 @ 6pm to discuss your involvement with Carnival this year and how to best utilise the Mas Camp space.

We have some dates for Master classes from Utopia Mas from London.  We would also like to have some more decorations at Carnival this year so are interested in having bunting made and also revamping the banners from previous years.

With regards to volunteering generally for Carnival, this is a chance to come down and find out a bit more about what we do and the various opportunities available,

We will need help with running the Mas sessions with, so look forward to seeing you next week. We generally provide all the materials, equipment and support needed to assist members of the community who wish to take part in St Pauls Carnival events and procession. 

BOARD MEMBER OPPORTUNITIES

 - Each year St Pauls Carnival Board needs to recruit new voluntary board members to help promote and advance the education, appreciation and practice of Afrikan and Caribbean arts, culture and history. Individuals are welcome to enquire, especially those with expertise in the following areas: carnival, youth work, sponsorship, marketing, fundraising, education, staffing, strategic policy and law.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

 - We are developing a bank of volunteers who are willing to help out with different aspects of St Pauls Carnival projects and events.  We would love to hear from anyone keen to offer their time.

  - Our newsletter goes out 3 times a year to members of St Pauls and surrounding areas. We print upload unto our website and distribute to over 2,000 homes and local businesses and including people on our mailing list too.

Fundraiser – Freelance

Fee: Commission based               

Ideally based in Bristol, the Carnivals fundraiser will be required to work with the Carnivals General Manager and the Board of Directors to help deliver and improve upon the annual carnivals fundraising strategy.  The Carnival cost £220,000 to put on in 2010 and with cuts to some areas of funding in 2011, this will be a crucial role to ensure the continued success of the event.

We are looking for a knowledgeable candidate, who is proactive, energetic, self motivated, with a keen interest in Carnival and events and must have;

  • At least 2 years successful experience in fundraising preferably with experience of obtaining funding for arts organisations.
  • The ability to improve and develop upon the existing fundraising strategies.
  • Excellent project management skills, including collaborative partnerships
  • Experience of working with or in the voluntary sector
  • An understanding of Carnival.

The Fundraiser will be responsible for the delivery of an agreed amount of funding for St Pauls Carnival, acting in the best interests of the organisation at all times, complying with their Equal Opportunities and other policies. The fee will be commission based with the % rising once OTE are obtained.  The work can be done from home or from our offices.
