Route and directions

Local directions

From Bristol Temple Meads

From the apron of the station take an 8 or 9 bus to Broadmead Shopping Centre and ask a friendly local for directions to St Pauls. Basically, you will need to use the underpass at James Barton Roundabout or walk back towards the new Cabot Circus redevelopment work and use the crossing. Within a few minutes the side streets lead up to Portland Square where you will find some of Carnival's groovy and tasty stalls and where the procession begins and ends.
Or
From the side of the station take a number 73 bus and ask to get out at the Magic Box (a disused pub). Walk back towards the traffic lights on the nearby corner. This is Ashley Road part of which forms the Carnival procession route. Take the first right (with the Salvation Army on the corner) into Brigstocke Road. Proceed along until you reach the crossroads and keep going - you are heading for Portland Square where the procession starts and ends.

From Bristol Parkway

Leave the station and take a bus towards Bristol City centre that goes down Gloucester Road/Cheltenham Road. This will probably be one of the 70 series Ask to be dropped off near to the Magic Box / Ashley Road. From the corner of Ashley Road follow the directions above.

From Marlborough Street Bus Station

Go down the slope out of the bus station on to Whitson Street, left onto Maudlin Street and left again onto Bond Street. The Premier Lodge Hotel will be on your left. Go under the James Barton Roundabout underpass and take the second exit (sort of on the right, then left up the steps) to Stokes Croft. Walk up Stokes Croft until you hit City Road on the right. You are in St Pauls. Follow the music.
Or
Go down the slope and turn right onto Maudlin Street at the top of Maudlin Street take a right. Cross the road onto Dighton Street which quickly turns into Jamaica Street. Walk all the way along Jamaica Street until it comes out at a set of traffic lights. Cross over. You are almost in St Pauls. Go left to City Road or right to Ashley Road. Within a few minutes walk you will see the sights and sounds of Carnival.

Enjoy.
